Moema’s journey to Stanford’s Mood and Anxiety Lab started south of the equator. Moema was born in Rio de Janeiro and moved to the US as a teenager. She attended the University of Florida where she studied advertising. While working in the corporate world, she realized that her absolute favorite part of the day was analyzing customer behavioral data. Wanting to know more about human behavior, she enrolled as a psychology student at SJSU and soon began doing research in the International Neuroeconomics Institute. She was subsequently accepted into a two-year funded NIH research training fellowship program for students. Research experiences have helped direct her interest in studying the relationship between emotion and information processing in mood disorders. When not in the lab, Moema enjoys spending time with her dogs, family and friends, playing water polo, biking, reading, writing and planning more than a lifetime’s worth of travel and adventure plans.
